Introduction to Drawing

Description

Drawing is the fundamental building block of realism, as well as the arts in general. Its importance can not be stressed enough. Being able to accurately record proportions and values is and essential skill for artist of all levels.

Students in this class will work on a number of small projects aimed at improving the accuracy of different aspects of their artistic eye. As the course progresses, students are introduced to ever more challenging drawing concepts.

This class begins with an investigation of linear drawing and the different methods for finding accurate proportions, initially from master works, and then from life.

The class then transitions into a study of mass drawing and how to organize values to create a believable light effect and the illusion of form and space.

During this class, students will have the opportunity to work from master works, classical cast sculptures, still lives, portrait and figure models.

In the course of learning about drawing in general, we will also touch upon the fundamentals of figure drawing, portraiture and composition.
