drawing supplies

  • Kneaded eraser

  • HB drawing pencil

  • Nitram charcoal H, HB, B (found at the Windward Community College bookstore in Kaneohe or purchased at ZAFA)

  • One sheet of white or off white paper 18x24” of larger, ("Canson" is a pastel paper brand that works well for charcoal drawing). We will use this paper to make a transfer drawing.

  • Masking tape

  • Sketchbook 8.5x11”

  • Comfortable shoes

 

Painting supplies

  • Paint brushes. Assorted sizes, "filbert" brush shape ("signet" is the brand of brush I prefer)

  • Terpenoid

  • Sealable gar for storing brush cleaner

  • Refined linseed oil

  • Medium cups (small containers used for holding already mixed painting medium)

  • Pallet (the bigger the pallet the better. Wood pallets are best, followed by glass, then plastic, then paper. Try to avoid white pallets)

  • Pallet knife (each painter has their own preference of pallet knife shape. I prefer a long rectangular shaped pallet knife)

  • Canvas panels. 3 panels that are 8x10”

  • Larger canvas. Size of canvas will be determined by size of transfer drawing. You will not need this canvas on day 1

  • Paint

    • Titanium white

    • Cadmium yellow light

    • Yellow ocher

    • Vermilion hue (red)

    • Alizarine crimson

    • Ivory black

    • Cobalt blue

    • Burnt umber
