ZAFA High School Atelier Program (Drawing focus)

Portfolio Development & Classical Training

The ZAFA High School Atelier Program is an ongoing training program for high school students who are serious about developing strong drawing and painting skills.

Over the years, many high school students have come to ZAFA seeking guidance in building their portfolios—whether for art school applications, scholarships, or personal artistic goals. This program is a direct response to that need, offering a structured and consistent environment where students can develop their skills while working toward a cohesive body of work over time.

At ZAFA, we emphasize drawing as the foundation of all representational art. Before color, before paint, students learn how to see, construct, and understand form. Through focused study and practice, students develop the ability to accurately observe, organize values, and build convincing images from the ground up—skills that carry directly into painting and more advanced work.

Each class begins with a focused lesson or demonstration, followed by extended studio time where students work on their individual projects with direct guidance and critique. Projects are structured around the types of work expected in competitive art school portfolios, allowing students to steadily build both technical ability and a strong, well-rounded body of work.

The program is designed to be flexible and accessible. Students progress through a structured set of projects at their own pace, allowing them to join at any time without falling behind. Each student follows their own track of development while participating in a shared studio environment, receiving individualized instruction tailored to their level and goals.

This balance of structure and flexibility creates a disciplined training environment while allowing students to grow steadily over time.
