Figure Drawing: Level 2

charcoal nude very small.jpg

Figure drawing is one of the most challenging, and also one of the most fun subjects regularly included within an artist’s training. During this class, students will have the opportunity to work from live models on both one day and multi day projects.

Working alongside the instructor, students will learn all of the stages one passes through while creating a finished classical figure drawing from life.

The first 4 classes of the workshop will cover how to construct a porportionaly accurate figure drawing and how to organize values to create a sense of light and form. Durring these classes students will work from master coppies, photo reference and a live model.

The remaining 6 days of the workshop will be spent working on a single, larger scale charcoal figure drawing. The goal of this project will be to continue to discuss figure drawing, while working to create a finished work of art ready to be added to the student’s portforlio.

Some of the things that will be included in the workshop:

-Students will learn how to use a variety of artistic measuring techniques including comparative measuring

-This workshop will teach students the visual impression approach to figure drawing.

-We will cover how to create a well-proportioned figure with a believable sense of balance.

-The class will go over useful anatomical landmarks and a step by step method of approach to construct a figure.

-We will be discussing head construction and portraiture

-Students will learn about values and how to create a light effect and sense of form in their drawings.

 -We will discuss edge hierarchies.

-We will go over how to create a sense of focus and atmosphere.

All skill levels are welcome to join this class. However, it is recommended that students have already taken the introduction to figure drawing workshop ZAFA offers, or already have some academic experience with figure drawing from live models.

The structure of the course allows for a large amount of one-on-one instruction, insuring that students of every level are given the guidance they need to push their artwork to the next level.

Don’t miss this opportunity to work from a live model in this studio environment and create works ready for your portfolio.

Testimonials

Having the teacher working alongside the class was really helpful. We were able to see demos of each step as topics were being explained. The one on one feedback was also excellent. Great class!!

I was really happy with how my drawing turned out. Best figure drawing I have done so far! The class was hard, but I would recommend it to people serious about art.
